Day One - Monday
Title/Theme: Course Introduction, History and Introduction to Fractals.
Lecture Topics: What are fractals?
Activities:
- Introduction to different fractals.
- Discuss how are they the same and how are they different.
- Discuss the mathematics behind fractals.
- Create simple fractals by hand.
Learning Goal: Students will be introduced to fractals and be able to create simple fractals when the algebraic formula is known.
Activity Details: PowerPoint presentation showing natural shapes of fractals all around us and examples of real fractals, e.g., broccoli, cauliflower, …, followed by student’s activity sheet.
Facilities Required: Computer Lab
Materials: Color prints of handouts; laminated color photos of fractal examples; Notepads and pens, tapes, glue, a few broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
